Although it may not look like it, today has been a pretty big day for Top Clone Scripts. A few days ago, we changed our domain to a dot com domain, and the transfer has been a big success. As we only started this site just on 2 months ago, and whilst on the old domain name, our popularity soared, it shows by our user numbers, it shows by how many people are subscribed to our RSS, and it shows through how visible we are in the search engines. I am very proud of how far this Top Clone Scripts has come in this time.
The idea of moving to a dot com was a good move for us. A dot com just makes a statement about us. We are here to stay, and we aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Whilst we were on the old domain, I took note of a few things on site that could be improved. The first was accessibility. Being able to find what you want, and being able to find it quick. We also looked at load times on average, which were declining fast as we were getting more and more traffic onsite. I know in my experience, if a page takes more than a few seconds to load, I lose my enthusiasm very quick.
The other thing that we looked into was how to reward our members (you!). From the start, we have received feedback from people who jumped on site early and helped us spread the word, and we have looked into ways to reward members for this.
We have had many tough decisions to make with this, some that have been implemented, others that haven’t yet, as this is only part one of a series of new features are implemented on site. Here are the new features that are in place as of today:
- We have managed to speed up the site dramatically using a method that compresses files and presents them to you in a way that doesn’t involve having to load from several sources at once.
- We have added a new toolbar which will display when you click any links that navigate off site (particularly when browsing for scripts) that will make it easy for you to share these with your friends.
- Through the application that allows you to log in using Social Networks, a bunch of other networks have been added including TypePad and more.
- A better statistics section (for Admin) which allows us to better track where users are coming from, and how we can make it easier for you (the user) to find us, and ultimately, find free scripts (which is why you are here, right?)
Now, this is only round one. We are in the serious business right now, of making this site the most accessible, the most user friendly, and as always, the largest online database of free Clone Scripts, and PHP resources. We will be expanding and offering a lot more in this department, however, these will come in time, and will be announced in due time.
